The following photos are from three of my successful hunts with my favorite being the introduction of a first time hunter to the woods. God and “Murphy” were shinning on us that day. I introduced Darryl “Tiger” Suleski to the outdoors and hunting this past summer when I worked with inner city children through a work related event. Tiger grew more and more intrigued with the hunting world. He eventually took my Hunter Safety Course successfully passing it with a 98 score. Opening day of turkey season found the 13 year old young man and me in the woods. After chasing birds around the woods and showing Tiger the lay of the land we left the morning for a well deserved breakfast. Later that afternoon we followed birds around the various woods, spotting a flock around 3:30 pm. Seeing this flock during previous scouting outings I knew the area they most likely were heading to roost for the night. Tiger and I sneaked into a good ambush spot and I began some light calling especially utilizing Kee Kee, the lost turkey call. Shortly I had my first cluck in response to my calling and the photo tells the rest. About 30 birds came to my calling and one bird came in to about 25 yards. With the cool calm manner seen in more experienced hunters, Tiger leveled the TK 2000 Knight Muzzle Loading shotgun at the bird and pulled the trigger. When the smoke cleared all that remained was a dead bird and a very excited young man. What a way to start your hunting life – success on your first fair chase hunt! His family states that Tiger rarely smiles, I don’t see that in the photo.
